About 2,000 animals live at the Zoo. • Tri State Zoological Park
Our Dream for this Zoo Starting back in his childhood, founder and owner Bob Candy, had a dream to open a zoo. His unofficial zoo began at an early age as he always told his parents how much he loved animals, always bringing something new home. Now a proud resident of Cumberland for over 20 years he has finally gotten the chance to make his childhood dream a reality, while sharing his love for the animals with the community. With the help and support of his wife Donna, the first phase of the TriState Zoo began in the spring of 2003. With the first step of establishing the zoo completed, plans to expand are already underway with new animals arriving all the time. We plan to make this the best zoo around, something for the community to share and enjoy for years to come. Along with the knowledgable staff working at the zoo, there are a number of volunteers, many of them from the local schools, with a desire of their own to be around these wonderful creatures, assisting to make your visit something to remember. As a non-profit organization, the TriState Zoo hopes to continue to further expand its fences to make this not only a dream for the staff but also for the community.

  • Washington, DC--The National Zoo
The National Zoological Park was planned by F.L. Olmstead & Co., one of the most influential and prolific American landscape architectural firms in history, and its location in the spacious and picturesque Rock Creek Valley marked an important departure from the 19th-century practice of confining zoological collections to limited areas. In addition to its important place in the history of landscape design, major scientific investigations, such as S.P. Langley's experiments in aerodynamics, are also a significant part of the Zoo's history.

  • Welcome To The Maryland Zoo In Baltimore
The Baltimore Zoo was created by act of the Maryland state legislature on April 7, 1876. (Its name was changed to The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore in 2004.) It is the third oldest zoo in the country, behind Philadelphia (1873) and Cincinnati (1874). It actually had its beginnings as early as 1862, when the first of many citizens gave animals (the first being 4 swans) to Druid Hill Park for public display.
