Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland | 515 South Haven Street Baltimore, Maryland 21224 410.558.0827 410.558.1321 fax 1.866.558.0827 toll-free
Taking their cue from a program developed in London, England at the end of World War II and later introduced in the United States in Philadelphia, a group of Baltimore women led by Ernestine McCollum and Bea Strouse started the first Meals on Wheels program in the Baltimore area. The year was 1960 and the kitchen site where meals were prepared was the current Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital. Thus began the organization we know today as Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland.
At its inception, Meals on Wheels served 10 homebound clients with a handful of volunteers. In FY 2008, 758,516 home-delivered meals were prepared and delivered to 2,995 clients through the coordinated efforts of Meals on Wheels staff and some 2,000 volunteers.
Throughout the '60s and '70s, Meals on Wheels expanded its service area to include Baltimore City and Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford and Howard counties. The latest service expansion occurred in the late '90s when the program initiated service in limited areas of Frederick and Montgomery counties.

Cheasapeake Bay Foundation - Save the Bay
CBF Celebrates 40 Year Anniversary
The Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) is the only independent 501(c)(3) organization dedicated solely to restoring and protecting the Chesapeake Bay and its tributary rivers. Since our founding 40 years ago, our goal has been to improve water quality by reducing pollution. Our motto, Save the Bay, has been the battle cry for that goal.
From the landmark EPA study of the Chesapeake Bay in the 1970s to Virginia’s comparable legislative commitment in 2005, CBF has been saving the Bay. Our vision is that the Chesapeake Bay and its tributary rivers, broadly recognized as a national treasure, will be highly productive and in good health as measured by water clarity, lack of toxic contaminants, and abundance of natural filters in the water and on the land. Read our strategic plan to learn how we are working towards making that vision a reality.

The Marion L. & Henry J. Knott Foundation
Henry and Marion Knott were incredibly dedicated to two things: their family and their surrounding community of Baltimore. In 1977, they started the Foundation as a way of joining their two passions. Today, the Marion I. and Henry J. Knott Foundation continues as a family-run philanthropic venture that strives to strengthen the surrounding community and preserve the Knott legacy of giving.
